The "Imagine - Inspirational School Design"
website says of the school that, "This deliberately
outward-looking building recognizes its
Trustees' aspirations for it to play an
active role in the social life of the
community. The school consists of six
levels, giving it physical presence
amongst its high neighbouring buildings
and giving the staff and pupils a new
prospect over their location. .....
Each storey is arranged to focus around an
external courtyard playdeck. Every
classroom has windows facing onto dual
aspects, providing both good lighting and
cross ventilation." The building was nominated for the RIBA Stirling Prize in 2002. It was also the winner of the Civic Trust Award 2004 and the Structural Steel Design Award 2003. |
