"
... the UK's most flexible event
space and the home to London's only
International Convention Centre,"
adding that it,
"...
is the host venue for a variety of
events from award winning
exhibitions and conferences to
international association meetings,
product launches, banquets, award
ceremonies, sporting events and
great days out. .... Situated
in a stunning waterfront location,
ExCeL London is located in the heart
of London's Royal Docks, within easy
reach of central London. .... The venue is part of a 100 acre campus, including 3 onsite DLR stations, easy access to the Jubilee Line and London City Airport, parking for 3,700 cars, six onsite hotels and numerous on-site bars and restaurants." The facility offers: a conference centre capable of accommodating 1200 delegates; the UK's largest fully-flexible auditorium with a 5,000 delegate capacity; and London's largest banqueting hall capable of hosting 3000 guests. The commission was awarded following an architectural competition to Moxley Architects. They say that, "Construction began in April 1999. Phase 1 held its first exhibition in November 2000, and was completed on time and below budget in January 2." In 2012 the ExCel was the venue for a number of Olympic and Paralympic sports including boxing, fencing, judo, table tennis, weight lifting and wrestling. |
