RMJM's website describes this
building as the largest research facility in
Oxford, adding that, "...The building
concept is geared around the need for
flexible generic laboratory space,
capable of being adapted to suit changes
in the ‘style of science’ in the future.
Accommodation centres on the provision
of 48 eight-person laboratory modules
for synthetic chemistry. A
separate wing providing professorial
office suites and research office space
together with meeting and seminar rooms.
It is linked to the main laboratory wing
by a glazed atrium that provides a
social focus and ‘heart’ for the
building." The Chemistry
Department's website points out that the
building provides 17,000 sq.m of
laboratory and office space spread over
five floors. This provides
research space to house 400 people with
more than 300 fume cupboards, together
with impressive facilities including 11
NMR spectrometers, 11 mass
spectrometers, and a X-ray
Crystallography facility.
