In 2000, the BMW Group decided
to build a brand-experience and
car-delivery center in close vicinity to
the corporate headquarters and the BMW
museum. They launched an international
competition for the design of the building
and 275 architects participated. The
design by COOP HIMMELB(L)AU was chosen in
July of 2001. The COOP HIMMELB(L)AU
design featured a large transparent hall
with a sculptural roof ..... .... and a double
cone.
The building won a RIBA Award in 2008. *************************
The BMW website
explains that, "... This
is where the BMW Group comes
alive: BMW Welt collates the brand
identity of the BMW Group and its
four brands in one location.
Changing product exhibitions, all
automobile ranges and motorbikes,
as well as numerous interactive
exponents show all visitors the
world of BMW, BMW M, BMW i, BMW
Motorrad, MINI and Rolls-Royce
Motor Cars. Every brand has its
own experience area that expresses
its nature. And the BMW Group puts
on its own exhibition."
Customers can also
collect their new cars at BMW
Welt. "The
number of customers who have come
to BMW Welt to collect their BMW
has meanwhile reached well over
100,000. Treat yourself to the
delight of collecting your new BMW
in Munich. Experience your new BMW
live for the first time in the
unique atmosphere of this
fascinating building. It is bound
to be an unforgettable
