The Keppie Architects website
says that they were appointed to, "...
facilitate the BBC’s brief for a
world-class broadcasting centre for
Scotland, which would be the BBC’s
first digital broadcasting centre of
the 21st Century and would house more
than 1,300 staff. The BREEAM “Very
Good” design encourages creative
interaction, connecting all the
perimeter workspaces within a central
atrium, that incorporates a rising
staircase - a powerful visual
representation to the public aspect of
the building whilst concealing the
three main studio spaces. This balance
was successfully achieved; a major
undertaking when you consider that the
TV studio alone extends to 8,500sqft." Tony Wilson of BBC Property adds that, "The building itself is looking magnificent and the high quality of both the design and construction is evident throughout. It was also important to us that the building should be finished on time and on budget, both of which I am pleased to say have been achieved." |
