Description
This cable-stayed road bridge links the island of Alsta and the mainland across the Leirfjorden in Norway's Nordland district.  Constructed of pre-stressed and reinforced concrete with steel cables, the bridge is 1,065 metres long and 138 metres high.  It is made up of 12 spans the longest being 45 metres in length.  The foundations extend to a depth of 31 metres.

The approach to the bridge from Sandnessjoen is by means of a causeway.

When it opened, it was a toll bridge to recoup the 200 million kronar construction cost.  This continued until June of 2005.
