The Fröttmaning U-Bahn Station
serves the nearby Allianz Arena, home to
Bayern Munich, and a large Park and Ride
facility for commuters traveling into the
city centre. The opening of the
Allianz Stadium prompted a complete
refurbishing of the station. The
station's platforms are covered by a roof
made up of a translucent membrane composed
of teflon-coated glass-fibre fabric.
This canopy is supported by a series of
tubular steel tree-like columns. The western wall is decorated with an elaborate design by Peter Kogler that is said to suggest the complicated pattern of railway tracks in the nearby yard or the winding paths that cross the Esplanada between the station and the Allianz. A pedestrian bridge
links the station with the Esplanade for
fans on the way to or from the Allianz.
At the other end of the station is a second pedestrian bridge connecting to the Park and Ride parking lot. |
