Cachorro Bridge, Seville, Spain

Architect
José Luis Manzanares
Date Built
1991
Location
Seville
Description
The precise name of this bridge is the Christ of the Expiration Bridge, a name it derives from its proximity to the Capilla del Patrocinio, a church from which the Brotherhood procession of Christ of the Expiration comes on Good Friday.  The Christ statue that they process is popularly known as the "Cristo del Cacharro".  Since Cacharro literally translates a "Puppy" this bridge is apparently known locally as the Puppy Bridge.

The bridge design is said to be based on the Alexander Bridge in Paris.  As with other bridges in the area, it was built in time for the Expo in 1992.  The walkways on the bridge have canvas awnings designed to provide pedestrians with some shade.
