Description
Seville's Barqueta Bridge was built as part of the preparations for the World's Expo 92.  Its role was to carry traffic across the River Guadalquivir into the Expo site.  It is composed of a 214 metre long steel arch that bifurcates at each end of the bridge.

The road deck is supported by cables anchored into the arch.  These cables are made up of 15 to 25 strands of galvanised wire that are inside a closed steel tube that is also galvanised and wrapped in red plastic.

The bridge was apparently constructed on the river bank before being swung out across the river to sit on its four anchor points.

Although known as the Barqueta Bridge, its official name is the Puente Mapfre after the company that financed it.
