Description

Alberton House
stands beside St. Mary's Parsonage with its
back to the River Irwell. Parts of the
building were built on the site of the former
Albert Street Police Station, which itself was
built on the site of the Albert Street Gas
Works. In 1992 an IRA bomb, planted in
the flower beds outside the neighbouring
Cardinal House, exploded causing significant
damage to Alberton House. All of the
windows in the building were broken by the
blast and apparently when they were replaced a
bomb-proof film was applied to them |
