Description |
|
An important factor in the
design of this building was the fact that
there were plans at the time to build a
new underground station at this point and
as a result 80 Cannon Street was built on
four giant legs. A branch of Boots
occupies the street level of the building
today. The most distinctive feature of the building though is the latice-work pattern of stainless steel rods that form the exoskeleton, that takes the weight of the floors leaving the inner space uncluttered by columns, as in the Pompidou Centre. Apparently fire regulations require the tubes be filled with water |
