This indoor arena, used mostly for ice
hockey and concerts, occupies a site
adjacent to Stockholm’s unique Ericsson
Globe. Previously known as
Johanneshovs Isstadion, the building is now
known as Hovet. When it was built in
the 1950s, it was an outdoor arena but in
1962 a roof was added as part of the
preparations to host the 1963 World Ice
Hockey Championships. You can see a
large collection of images of the arena
prior to and during the installation of the
roof by clicking on the link below.
In 2002 the arena
underwent another refurbishment that
involved replacing the seating and adding a
restaurant area. Hovet is home to the
ice hockey clubs AIK and Djurgårdens
IF. It can accommodate a crowd
of 8,094 for ice hockey and 8,300 for
concerts.
