Apparently, Alfred
Dunhill has been resident at 48 Jermyn
Street since 1906. On 17 April 1941,
the Luftwaffe dropped a parachute mine that
exploded on Jermyn Street. A
number of buildings were completely
destroyed but among the ones severely
damaged were Fortnum & Mason, the
Cavendish Hotel, and Dunhill's. This
building on the corner of York Street and
Jermyn Street was built in the 1950s as a
replacement for the one damaged in
WWII. It comprises 5 floors clad in
granite with stainless steel rails and
continuous bands of windows.
