Description
When the Meliá White House opened in 1936 it was an apartment building offering 758 luxury apartments.  Apparently it was built in under a year for £350,000.  In 1959 the building began to undergo a transformation into a hotel although, when it reopened as a hotel, it still maintained one wing for permanent residents.  In 1972 the Rank Organisation bought the hotel and once again the building underwent an extensive renovation.  Since then each decade has seen improvements and modernizations.  In 1999 the hotel was bought by Sol Meliá, hence its current name.  After purchasing the hotel, the new owners lavished a further £30M on improving it.  Today this 548 bedroom hotel has a 4star status.
