Description
|
Apparently begun
by Norman Jones & Rigby in 1939.
During the war it was used as a storeroom and
bomb shelter. After the
war, according to Pevsner, it was completed
using the modular system devised for M&S
by their consultant architect, Robert
Lutyens. The
black granite cladding was used on one other
Marks and Spencer store, the one on Oxford
Street in London.
