Description
The Box Works is a former cardboard factory on Egerton Street beside the Bridgewater Canal.  The art deco facade was preserved when it was transformed into apartments by Urban Splash.  The Liverpool architectural practice of Arkheion were responsible for the design of the new building.  The Box Works was the first development to sell shell spaces to purchasers who wanted to work with their own architect and design their own home.  Promotional descriptions say this of the building, "Internally the circulation is dramatic with lift access ...... and then a bright internal street, five storeys high, with a single wall of plywood within which entrances to apartments are subtly accommodated, and off which comes a magically lit internal corridor which confounds expectations.  The planning of the apartments themselves is complex, inventive and well executed."
