This building was
commissioned by the retailers Peek &
Cloppenburg and designed by the architect
Anton J Joling, a pupil of Dr PJH Cuypers
who designed Amsterdam Central Station and
the Riijksmuseum. The facade is
articulated vertically by the use of
colossal pilasters and pilasters at the
corners. The building comprises 5
floors with a hipped roof covered in
shingles.
The decoration is by the Dutch sculptor Kees
Smout.
Apparently, the building
is known locally as the 'Het
Broekenpaleis' (the pants palace).
