Lizzy Cottage, Amsterdam, Holland

A. W. Weissman
Date Built
1902
Location
Hobbemastraat 12
Description
Lizzy Cottage occupies a corner on Hobbemastraat.  Apparently, this detached villa was commissioned by a stock broker named Engelbertus Essen.  His wife's middle name was Lizzy.  The building's style is described as, "English First Movement" which I believe refers to the Arts and Crafts movement.  According to its heritage listing it features, ".. a set of hipped roofs at different levels," adding that it is, "... Built in brick, with partial use of wooden posts and brackets."

The building features two terrazzo friezes: one with a representation of dancing women, in three groups of three; the other containing a representation of putti with garlands
