The Guild of Students
building occupies a site close to the
eastern gateway to the Edgbaston
Campus. It dates from 1928 but has
been modified and added to over the
years. In the 1960s a west wing was
added. The Pevsner Guide to Birmingham
describes it as having an,
"...
E-plan front with three big gables
inspired by midlands manor houses.
Brown brick with red relieving arches
and stone dressings. A chimney out
of Nesfield’s Kimmel Park breaks the
symmetry. Central
plaque by William Bloye......
... The
back has giant iconic pilasters of the
Kirby Hall type. Extensions by
Holland W Hobbiss and Partners 1948 -
51and 1960 form three sides of a quad."
