Rembrandtplein/Herengracht 595
This building on Rembrandtplein, in the centre of Amsterdam, was originally home to the Amsterdamsche Bank.  Today, it is known as "The Bank" which claims that it, "... stands on one of Amsterdam’s most presigious locations. And this imposing ‘monument’ building is more alive then ever thanks to a high value combination of hospitality, retail and office use. In The Bank you find:, BNP Paribas, Guerilla Games, George Deli USA, Hummbar, Marqt, ParkKing, Shabu Shabu, Shabu Shabu To Go, Starbucks, Vapiano en Wagamama."

Its website adds that, "This is a magnificent building ... is robust, regal and majestic. Citizens would not hesitate for a moment to take their savings here. The Bank was built in 1926 by archtects Ouëndag, with the assistance of Berlage. The building is richly decorated with exquisite granite sculptures bij Lambertus Zijl, as well as a variety of copper and bronze ornaments, including lamps and letterboxes. ...

... Suprisingly many of these have been preserved, despite the fact that the building was drastically altered and enlarged in the seventies by architects Zwier and Fontein. At the time, the glass roof and the light cove were closed. We will bring light back. ....

... We facilitate the etablishment of shops in the arcade in the Utrechtsestraat and at the ’plinth’ in the Amstelstraat. This makes the building look much more open and accessible. I am delighted about the new functionality of this exceptional building, as it is unequivocally part of the city’s collective memory."
