St Peter's R.
C. High School sits on the corner of Kirkmanshulme
Lane and Pink Bank Lane. When it was last
inspected by OFSTED, it had 900 pupils from age 11
to 16. On the school's website the head
teacher says of the school that it is, "...
firmly established as one of Manchester’s most
successful high schools. It is a Roman Catholic
High School founded on gospel values where
pupils are encouraged to live their faith and to
lead upright lives."
He adds that, "This is a young and exciting
school providing excellent pupil care,
outstanding examination results and very high
quality teaching. As a result of its outstanding
performance, St Peter's has been designated as a
National Support School and a Leading Edge
School giving it the role of helping other
schools to improve. St
Peter’s is an inclusive school. We work closely
with our partner primary schools to support
pupils in the transfer to high school; at St
Peter's we give pupils every assistance and
encouragement to succeed and to proceed to one
of our partner sixth form colleges, Loreto or
Xaverian, before they move to university or the
world of work."
According to the Wikipedia entry for the school, it opened in 1999 but moved into the new building in 2003. The building has been extended on a number of occasions with a chapel on the corner of the site being the latest addition. Below are
views taken along Pink Bank Lane.
********************* This site
was once home to the Greenwood House Flats that
can be seen in the aerial photograph below that
was taken in the 1940s. Across Pink Bank Lane was a vast
area of allotments and across Kirkmanshulme Lane
was Belle Vue Zoo and Amusement Gardens.
