Stanley
Grove Primary Academy occupies a site on the
corner of Rushford Street and Parry Road.
The railway line running into Manchester
Piccadilly runs close to its western border.
The
original school building is 112 years old and
shares its red brick and terracotta design with
many other schools in the Manchester area.
As the
Memorial Stone on the front indicates, Stanley
Grove was the 39th school built by the Manchester
School Board.
You can see the school,
indicated by a red arrow, on the aerial
photograph below taken in 1946.
Apparently, the building across Parry Road,
indicated by a blue arrow, on what is now the
school's sports field, was a school kitchen.
Over
the years the school has had a number of
names, most recently Stanley Grove Community
Primary School, but today it is an academy
school, part of the Bright Futures Educational
Trust. The school's website says that
they are, "... working together with a
group of schools across the North West to
provide a world-class education for all of
our pupils. Being a part of Bright Futures
Educational Trust means that our pupils
and staff can access resources from across
the Trust’s schools (e.g. specialist
teachers) to help them to excel. Working
with senior leaders in education,
including our Executive Headteacher and
Director of Education Gary Handforth, we
are helping to raise aspirations and boost
achievement in our pupils, helping them to
get the most out of their time at our
school."
The school appears to have a three form entry and in 2011, when it was last inspected by OFSTED, its enrollment of children from age 3 to 11 was 525. |
