St. Joseph's
School occupies a site on Plymouth Grove between
Richmond Grove and Daisy Bank Road. The
present building was opened in 1952. The previous
St. Joseph's Elementary School was damaged in the
Manchester Blitz in 1940. St. Joseph's RC Primary
School was opened in its present form in 1983
following the merger of an infants school with the
junior school on its present site. The school's
head teacher describes St. Joseph's on the school's
website as, " ... a rich,
diverse and vibrant Catholic Primary School
serving the parishes of St. Joseph’s and
St. Augustine’s. We are situated in the
heart of Longsight and offer our children and
families a school where they feel welcome,
content and secure." At the time
of its most recent OFSTED Report in 2012, the school
had an enrollment of 247 children between the ages
of 3 and 11.
