St. Chrysostom's
Churchon the corner of Oxford Place and Anson Road.![]() Along Anson Road you pass a series of
large houses that were once private residences.
You can see them on the 1893 map below.
![]() They are indicated with arrows on the aerial photograph below. ![]() The first is Mansion Bank, student accommodation, in the refurbished former Foot Hospital. ![]() ![]() ![]() The Gables now incorporated into a
student hall of residence but originally the home of
Edward Salomons, the Manchester architect.
![]() ![]() The Rampant Lion was once a private
residence called Milverton Lodge. Over the years
it has had a number of uses including as a hotel and
more recently a gastropub. Indications are that it
is no longer in business and when I took these
photographs in May of 2014 the sign over the gateway was
gone and the beer garden looked as if it hadn't been
used in some time.
