St. Cyprian's Church


St. Cyprian's Church used to sit on Stanley Grove between the railway bridge and Rushford Street.  It was founded in 1899 and can be seen in the map above from that time.  The church closed in 1979 and the congregation joined St. John's Church to form St. John's with St. Cyprian.  The aerial image below shows the site in 1953.


St. Cyprian's Church was subsequently demolished.  The image below of Stanley Grove, taken in 2000, shows the site of the church on the left somewhat overgrown with weeds.


The image below was donated by Carol Steele and, as its caption indicates, it shows the choir of St. Cyprian's Church during the 1959 Whit Week Walks along North Road, passing the windows of the Co-op store.
