| Simon Building, the University of
Manchester Brunswick Street and Oxford Road ![]() The Simon Building is home to
the Centre for the History of Science, Technology and Medicine; the
Medical and Human Sciences Faculty Office, and Psychiatry. I
believe that it was named after Ernest Simon who was an industrialist
and later a politician. He was a Manchester City Councillor, Lord
Mayor of Manchester in 1921 and later an MP representing
Withington. He was knighted in 1932 and became a Peer in
1947. The building contains a cafe called "Potter's" after
Shena
Potter,
Ernest's wife, who opened the building. The Shena Simon
campus of the Manchester City College is named after her.
