Deansgate
Viaducts
& Bridges
At the end of Deansgate transportation routes colide as the Bridgewater and Rochdale canals join in the Castlefield Basin, railway lines and now Metrolink tram lines stride out across the canals and roads, and the Mancunian Way and Trinty Way ring road pass close by. The railway lines ran into Central Station and the LNER Goods Station. Both of these stations closed some years ago and have been redeveloped but trains still run out of Piccadilly and Oxfod Road Stations and out through the Deansgate Station. The Metrolink trams rise up from street level by way of the ramp on Lower Mosley Street and after a stop behind the G-Mex cross the viaducts above the canal basin on the way to Old Trafford and beyond. The Barca Bar makes use of the railway arches in Catalan Square. A Metrolink Tram passing over the viaduct on its way to Eccles. Close Window |
