Lawrence Buildings

At the corner of Central Street and Mount Street stands the Lawrence Building.  Designed by Pennington and Brigden for the Queens Building Society and built in 1874, it spans 5 storeys in Darley Dale stone.

Above the door at the Central Street corner are 6 shields depicting the 6 northern counties and on opposite sides stand a unicorn and a lion.

A statue of Queen Victoria stands in a niche on the Mount Street side.
