Mr. Thomas' Chop House

Time stands still at Mr. Thomas'. This Victorian building houses a Victorian restaurant. Originally the portion of the building on Cross Street was designed by Mills and Murgatroyd (who redesigned the Royal Exchange building), in 1901, as a shop and offices. As you can see, it is built of red brick and elaborate terracotta displaying Art Nouveau motifs.

The Chop House, also built in 1901 by Woodhouse & Willoughby, was originally in this section at the rear, close to St. Ann's Church . Today the restaurant trades on the nostalgia for the Victorian period, but it now occupies the whole of the building.
