Church
House - 90 Deansgate Church House, located at
90 Deansgate, is the official business address of the
Manchester Diocesan Board of Finance, the Board of
Education and the Diocesan Advisory Committee for the
Care of Churches. It is the administrative centre
for the Diocese of Manchester. The building was
apparently opened officially by the Archbishop of York
in 1911.
The building used to be home to the Houldsworth Hall, a venue that over the years hosted a wide variety of events from wrestling to musical concerts. After the Reform Synagogue in Chetham Hill was destroyed by bombing in 1941, the Houldsworth Hall was used by the synagogue's congregation. This continued for a period of seven years. In the 1950s the Dutch Airline KLM had an office on the ground floor of the building, as you can see if you click on the link below. |
