Building - The University of Manchester
When it was completed in 1970, this
grey concrete building was home to the University of
Manchester's Architecture & Planning
Department. The severe concrete is softened by
an internal courtyard.
The University's website indicates that today the building is home to among others: the Architecture and Planning Department, the Brookes World Poverty Institute, the Cathie Marsh Centre for Census and Survey Research, the Cordingley Lecture Theatre (see below), ... ... the Kantorowich Library,
the Media Centre, and the Staff Training and
Development Unit.
When the building was designed
there were proposals to link many of the buildings on
the campus by a high level walkway. There is
evidence of this in the image below. You can see
a concrete panel that covers the point where the
walkway would have been connected to the building.
