Former
Police Station - Bridgewater
Street and Barton Street in Castlefield
This apartment
complex on the corner of Bridgewater Street and
Barton Street, in Castlefield, was once a police
station for Manchester's A Division.

Below is an
image of the police station shown here with
the permission of the Greater Manchester
Museum and Archive. If you visit their Flickr
Photostream you can see more historic
images.
It was built in 1898-99 and if you follow the links below you can see it under construction and then 68 years later when it was still in use as a police station.
The red arrow in the aerial photograph below, dated 1953, points out the police station. As you will have
gathered from the old photographs, the police
station has been somewhat truncated to accommodate
the conversion into a residential complex.
However some of the original features remain
including the Manchester Council Crest with the
motto "Concilio et Labore" which roughly
translates as "Wisdom and Effort".
