Rolls - Royce

As the inscription below this plaque explains it was placed at the entrance to the Midland Hotel because it was here on May 4, 1904 that Charles Rolls, a millionaire's son with a passion for the new horseless carriages, and Frederick Henry Royce, an engineer from Manchester met and agreed to form a partnership that was to become Rolls-Royce Limited.

An engraved plate presented by Rolls-Royce to mark the centenary of that meeting is located close by.
