Royal George
This house on Lever Street has a
long history as a public house. Until relatively
recently it was the Royal
George pub
**************************** The 1844 map of the area shows that
it was a public house for more than 170 years.
As you can see, in 1844 it was called The Imperial
Wreath.
By the end of the 19th century the
pub had expanded into the space previously occupied by
a pair of back-to-back houses. Clearly at some
point after this the houses were demolished to make
way for the four-storey commercial/industrial building
you can see in the current images at the top of this
page.
