Guang Shan Monastery, Old Trafford
This building on Stretford Road
in Old Trafford has been home to the Fo Guang Shan
Monastery since 1996. The building has three
storeys and a basement that were renovated by the
occupants, and today it houses, "...
the Main Shrine, the Shrine of Avalokitesvara
Bodhisattva (Guan Yin) and the Shrine of
Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva (Di Zang). " It
also features, "... a kitchen,
the dining hall, the library, reception, as well
as rooms for meditation, conference, classes and
accommodation for Buddhists."
If you look at the entrance on Stretford Road you
can see the history of the building. It was opened in 1899 as a
Technical Institute, subsequently it became Old
Trafford Public Library before assuming its present
role.
