The DOT Motorcycle Factory - Ellesmere Street

The DOT Motorcycle Factory is located on Ellesmere Street between St. George's Church and the Box Works apartment complex.  The DOT Motorcycle Company traces its history back to 1903 and Harry Reed who built bikes in Salford and raced them.  The company ceased production in the 1930s.  It reappeared under the new ownership of Burnard Scott Wade producing 3-wheeled cycle and motor powered delivery trucks.  The company went back into motorcycle production after World War II.  DOT bikes had a lot of success in racing which was often down to the maneuverability of these lighter machines.  Production of motorcycles ceased in the 1960s but the building is still a source for spares and advice.
