Boer War Memorial - Salford

This Lancashire Fusiliers' Boer War memorial, created by George Frampton, sits at the corner of Chapel Street and Oldfield Road.  Known as the "Cheering Fusilier", it was originally unveiled on July 13, 1905 by Edward VII, accompanied by Queen Alexandra, as part of a Royal visit to Manchester.

In June of 2012 it was rededicated after it had been significantly refurbished.  The Salford City Council website says that, " Contractors Galliford Try and designers Urban Vision employed specialist granite suppliers and restoration experts to put in new granite steps. New ramps and lighting were also put in as part of the scheme, which also involved putting in new planting and a new seating area at the base of the statue for visitors."
