St. Chrysostom's Church

The church of St Chrysostom stands at the corner of Anson Road and Oxford Place in Victoria Park.   It is indicated by a red arrow in the aerial photograph below, dated 1953.

The architect of the church was G. T. Redmayne who also designed Dalton Hall, its next door neighbour, and the Manchester School of Art on Grosvenor Street.  The church was built between 1874 and 1877 but suffered a devastating fire in 1904.  Following the fire the building was restored to Redmayne's original plans under the supervision of the architect John Ely.
