St. Francis Church & Gorton Monestery, Gorton Lane, Gorton - 1866 - 1872 Edward
Welby Pugin was engaged to design the Gorton
Church and Friary. Edward was the son of Augustus
Welby Northmore Pugin, the famous Gothic
architect, responsible for the design of the
intricate facade and interior of the Houses of
Parliament. The Monastery of St Francis is
considered one of Edward Welby Pugin's
masterpieces.
