2 - 4 Schwabe Street, Middleton

Broad Street runs uphill from Manchester New Road in the Rhodes area of Middleton and up at the top of the hill becomes Schwabe Street and then Top Schwabe Street. Beyond lies Rhodes Green Farm and the North Manchester Golf Course. I don't know if the street name is associated with Wood's long time pupil G. A. E. Schwabe but it is an interesting coincidence if it isn't. The design for these two houses was originally filed in 1895 but the building wasn't completed until 1897. The corner butresses were an aspect of the design of the much grander Dunarden built in Archer Park in 1898.
