Peter Craven arrived at Belle Vue in
1952 after starting his racing at Liverpool and
Fleetwood. Craven's talent was obvious although in his
early days he spent more time picking himself up, he
made his World Final debut in 1954 before annexing the
title in 1955.He waited seven years before repeating
his victory celebrations in 1962. A popular
riderthroughout the World, The Mighty Atom,as he was
affectionately known, has the distinction of scoring a
21 point maximum for England in an international
against Poland in Poland. Tragically, Peter was
fatally injured whilst avoiding a fallen rider in a
racing accident at Edinburgh in 1963. "Mighty Atom"
