Swimming
Teams
Below are a number of images that
were generously donated by Suzanne Choppen & Hilary Fuller. They
all date prior to 1922 when Mr. Major was the Headmaster of the school.
He appears in most of them. The lady teacher in each one is Miss Jenny
Fuller, who taught at the school for 42 years. The medals worn by the
girls are very likely ones won in lifesaving competitions. In 5 years
the girls at Ardwick Central won 15 of the 20 medals available. You
will note that the girls have initials embroidered on the costumes.
These include V.S.C. - which might be Victoria Swimming Club (centered
at the Victoria Baths on High Street in Chorlton-on-Medlock), L.C.S. -
which might be Longsight Swimming Club and A.C.S. - Ardwick Central
School.
