Zara, Zurich, Switzerland

The Zara store on Bahnhofstrasse occupies a building designed by the architectural practice of  Haefeli Moser Steiger in 1968.  It has been transformed into Zara's flagship store in Zurich by the  Spanish architect Elsa Urquijo.  The architect says of the project that, "... It has been our intention to respect the architecture of the building, emphasizing its Cartesian geometry through a geometric and orthogonal design, where floors and ceilings emphasize the outlines of the project, therefore organizing exterior which is used as a reference for the interior of the building.  A measured, tidy and ordered space, in coherence with the building in which it is situated where the facade has been treated as a filter, permitting an interaction between the interior and exterior of the building, allowing to see the outside from the store out , while obscuring the view from the street."
