The Palazzo di Giustizia
in north-east Florence was designed by the
Italian architect Leonardo Ricci but
completed after his death in 1994. The
building is 240 metres long, 146 wide and 72
metres to the top of the tower and, as such,
is one of the highest in the city. It
was built on the site of a former Fiat
factory. The complex is home to all the civil and criminal courts for Florence, as well as the higher courts for the province of Tuscany. There are also offices for the chief justice, other judges, the prosecutor general, chief prosecutor and all prosecutors. In all, several thousand people work in the building ranging from judges, lawyers, clerks and police to the support workers who assist them. |
