The Valentine Bridge, Bristol, UK

Architect
W. S. Atkins - construction Alfred McAlpine
Date Built
Completed 2000
Location
Temple Quay
Description
The Valentine bridge - apparently so named on February 14th - literally snakes across Bristol's Floating Harbour amidst a newly developed area of office and residential buildings behind Temple Mead Station.  The cable-stayed bridge was designed to serve pedestrians but, as you can see from my photographs, is also used by cyclists.  A review of articles in Bristol newspapers seems to show that there has been something of a controversy over the use of bicycles.  Barriers were erected to encourage riders to dismount and walk their bikes over the bridge but there seems to have been a change of mind after complaints were registered.
