Description
The Millennium Point Multi-storey Car Park was selected as the winner of the 2012 Best New Car Park in the UK.  Located on the site of the former outdoor car park for the Millennium Point facility, it apparently took 63 weeks to build at a cost of £11.7m.  The Construction West Midlands website says that, "A strong emphasis was placed on the quality of materials and visual impact of the scheme both in terms of urban design and appearance. For visitors, the car park provides a bright, welcoming and safe environment associated with the higher quality car parks in the Midlands."

The Lucite International website explains that the bright, welcoming environment is due in part to the Perspex® Frost panels used on the facade.  “We chose Perspex® for a number of reasons: first, it looked good and worked well with the palette of materials we were using. Its translucency helped transmit natural light during the day and the building’s internal lighting at night. It was also extremely easy to work with and cost-effective, as we were able to use full size panels which meant there was no waste.”  At night the internal lighting illuminates the external panels adding to the appearance of the building.
