Description
In 2016, when these images were taken, Aldgate House had little in common with its original appearance.  The Pevsner Guide for the City of London described it prior to the refurbishment in 2008.  They said it was, "... A giant-four-square block .... The City’s first big deep-plan office, reflecting advances in air-conditioning etc. and the interest in more flexible and informal ‘landscaped’ offices.  .... Eight storeys.  The even, somewhat heavy elevations are raised high on pilotis over a driveway.  Chamfered uprights of light-pink Sardinian granite."

In 2013 the Evening Standard reported on  the sale of Aldgate House saying that it , “ ... has been snapped up by a joint-venture vehicle formed by the Canadian state pension fund and the manager of BT’s pensions.  The 214,000 sq ft property was bought for £100 million by the 50:50 partnership formed in July between the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board and Hermes Real Estate. Wenzel Hoberg, managing director for CPPIB, said: ‘We are delighted to secure our first transaction alongside Hermes Real Estate. This acquisition complements our existing London office portfolio.’  Tenants of the Aldgate High Street office space include Thomson Reuters and ISG.”
