New St. Andrews House, Edinburgh, Scotland

Architect

Date Built
mid-1970s
Location
St James Square
Description
When the office of the Scottish Secretary moved out of the art deco St Andrew's House on Calton Hill, it moved into this pre-cast concrete block in what was St James Square.  The office block is part of a complex of buildings that includes a shopping centre and a multi-storey car park.

The office building was finally emptied in 1997 and is due for demolition in 2016 along with the shopping centre and I assume the car park.  The plan is to completely redevelop the whole area.  It seems that even in its earlier life the office block was unloved and is unlikely to be missed.
