Description
|
London Scottish
House occupies a site on Windmill Street
between Mount Street and Museum Street.
It backs on to St. George's House, the former
YMCA building. It was built in 1973, by
the architectural practice of Essex, Goodman
& Suggitt, who were responsible for the
conversion of Central Station into the
G-Mex. As the name suggests it used to
be home to the London Scottish Bank.
London Scottish, which specialised in
customers with poor credit histories, went
into administration on December 1, 2008.
However, more than three months earlier the
development company, the "Walls Group", had
purchased the building for £20Million and,
according to an article in the Manchester
Evening News, dated August 21, 2007, they
planned to demolish it and replace it with an
"eye catching building". Four years
later London Scottish House is still in place.
