Elisabeth House - St. Peter's Square, Manchester, UK

Architect
Cruickshank and Seward
Date Built
1971
Location
St Peter's Square
Description
It was intended that this concrete-framed building would be clad in stone but apparently the developers ran out of money.  The building provided offices with shops on street level.  The plan is to redevelop St Peter's Square and should this plan come to fruition Elisabeth House will be demolished.  The plan is to replace it with a new building designed by the Glenn Howells architectural practice. As you can see the building is empty and awaiting its fate.

UPDATE

When I visited the site on October 13, 2011, I noticed men in HiVis jackets and hard hats inside Elisabeth House and on the outside there was a board advertising the work of "Connell Bros - Award Winning Demolition Contractor",  so it looks like the "end is nigh" for Elisabeth House.
